OneNote for Windows 10, the OneNote app which is pre-installed on all editions of Windows 10, and which can also be downloaded for free in the Microsoft Store. OneNote (formerly called “OneNote 2016”), the free desktop app which runs on all supported versions of Microsoft Windows and which is part of Office 2019 and Microsoft 365. Windows users can choose between two available versions: ![]() (I noticed the name change in updates to the application as a customer of the O365 license from OneNote 2016 to plain OneNote). They offer today (sept 2021) two different desktop applications called exactly "OneNote" and "OneNote for Windows 10". It's too complicated and lead to confusion as final users at this point I think, this is how we can describe the current state of the OneNote product in terms of the desktop clients applications. ![]() The ".for Windows 10" name was the way they difference the licensed version coming with Office from the free independent version appearing in the Microsoft Store. Yes, OneNote is a separate product that maybe sadly took that name.
